STS assists individuals with speech disabilities by providing a specially trained relay operator who listens carefully and repeats the caller’s words for clear understanding.

This service provides real-time captions for group conversations such as video conferences or multi-party calls, making it easier for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to participate.

A person who is deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or speech disabled uses a TTY device to type messages to a relay operator. The operator reads the typed message to the hearing caller and types the spoken response back.

Standard voice telephone users can place calls to TTY users. The relay operator types the hearing person’s spoken words and reads the typed response back.

VCO allows individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to speak directly to the other person while a relay operator types their responses.
